Our Cremation Options

Cremation has rapidly grown in popularity over the last decade. Therefore, to keep up with this demand we have perfected our cremation process and have made our cremation options a staple part of our funeral home. Our cremation options mainly differ in terms of the type of cremation ceremony you would like with the actual cremation.

Below we have highlighted some of our most popular cremation options.

Direct Cremation

This is our simplest cremation service available. It does not involve any type of ceremony. Essentially the fee covers the completion of the necessary paperwork, removal of the deceased from the place of death, and the actual cremation of the deceased.

Cremation with a
Memorial Service

This cremation service includes all the aspects of a direct cremation package plus your choice of a memorial service or celebration of life. Having a memorial service or celebration of life scheduled after the cremation, gives families more time to think about the ceremony, it can be more personalized, and it allows for more flexibility. Often families have the memorial service or celebration of life weeks or even months after the death.

Cremation with a Traditional Funeral Service

This is much like our traditional funeral service we offer with burial. It includes a viewing/visitation with an open or closed casket followed by a traditional funeral ceremony usually in a church. A specially-selected cremation casket is used during the visitation. After the funeral, the deceased is then cremated as opposed to being buried.

Ash Scattering Services

We can help you organize a ceremony where your loved one's ashes are scattered in a location of your choice. A key point for this cremation service is finding a location that was of significance

to your loved one.

Decisions You Must Make If You Choose Cremation

  • Who will do the cremation (a funeral home or a firm that specializes in direct cremation).
  • Whether to use an urn or container.
  • What to do with the remains.
  • Most jurisdictions have laws prohibiting the scattering of remains; others require a permit. Ask your funeral director.

Alternative Cremation Options

The latest innovation in cremation is a process of alkaline hydrolysis, sometimes called resomation. The process was developed in the United States in the late 1990s. The Cremation Association of North America describes the process as "a water-based dissolution process for human remains that uses alkaline chemicals, heat, and sometimes agitation and-or pressure, to accelerate natural decomposition".

Compared with traditional cremation, this process uses less energy and releases no carbon and no matter into the atmosphere. Not all regions have made the legislative changes required for funeral homes to offer this service to families and the equipment costs are more than a conventional retort. Both factors currently reduce the availability of resomation cremation services.

We are caring cremation experts who promise each family we serve the highest level of:

  • Courteous, professional service. Our professional and courteous staff will take care of all details, including prompt filing of required permits and notifications. Accurate completion of these essential documents not only ensures their acceptance by local or provincial agencies; it guarantees your loved one's cremation will not be delayed.
  • Respectful and Compassionate Care of the deceased and timely completion of cremation process. Your loved one will be attended to only by our qualified staff; each of whom has been trained to provide both compassionate care for the deceased, and conscientious attention to detail throughout and following the cremation process.
  • Local safekeeping and prompt return of cremated remains. We know it's important for the families we serve to know their loved one will be coming home as soon as possible. Your loved one will remain in our community and in our care through every stage of the cremation. We promise to notify you as soon as their ashes become available, and safeguard their urn until the time you are ready to receive them.
  • A memorial service to celebrate the life of the deceased. There are many reasons to taking some time to remember the life lived, share stories and laugh about all of the memories. Family and friends need that time when they can gather and support one another. Our team at Saamis Memorial Funeral Chapel can help you plan a unique and personalized memorial service, with or without the cremation urn present, at one of our facilities or in a place of your choosing.
